Tritium Exit Sign

A tritium exit sign is also known as a self-luminous exit sign. Tritium refers to the technology that is used to provide illumination to the EXIT faceplate. Tritium is a form, or isotope, of hydrogen gas that inherently glows. Tritium has been used for years in exit signs, watch faces, and key chains. Tritium is completely self-contained and needs no outside power source so it is the most universal type of illumination.

In regards to exit signs, tritium is encapsulated in borosilicate (shatterproof) glass tubes that are arranged in a formation that spells the word “EXIT.” Self-luminous exit signs are a popular choice for new construction and retrofit projects. From a new construction standpoint self-luminous exit signs eliminate the cost of running a dedicated emergency electrical circuit throughout the building. This cost can be upwards of tens of thousands of dollars depending on the size of the project. Additionally, if you are going to own the property after construction, maintenance costs will be minimal because there are no internal components to maintain such as light bulbs or batteries. For retrofit projects, tritium exit signs are a popular choice because of their non-invasive installation attribute.

Greentorch manufactures two models of tritium self-luminous exit signs, the SLE and SLX. The SLE has a 125-foot UL Listed viewing distance and aluminum mounting bracket. With slightly smaller dimensions, a 100 foot viewing distance, and a thermoplastic mounting bracket, the SLX is one of the smallest UL Listed exit signs on the market. The SLX and SLE both feature face color choices of red, green, black, or white and frame color choices of white or black. Both models can be ordered in single and double face versions.
