Photoluminescent Emergency Exit Signs
Photoluminescent emergency exit signs are the longest lasting, efficient, and eco-friendly exit signs available today. Photoluminescent emergency exit signs glow in the dark and are a perfect solution for situations that require an exit sign to be installed but AC power is not currently running to that location. Instead of hiring an electrician to run electrical conduit to the location, you can save money in the short and long term by installing photoluminescent emergency exit signs.
Greentorch use industrial grade, non-toxic photoluminescent pigment. Similar to the glow in the dark pigment used in children’s toys, Greentorch glow in the dark pigment is much stronger and has been approved for use in exit signs across the country for more than 10 years.
Greentorch photoluminescent pigment charges itself by absorbing ambient light and storing it. When power is lost or the atmosphere becomes dark our industrial grade photoluminescent pigment will glow for a required minimum of 90 minutes. Our are offered with viewing distances of 50, 75, and 100 feet. Consider the distance at which you would like the sign to be visible in darkness before purchasing. Face colors of red, green, and black are available on most models.
There are two things to make sure before purchasing a photoluminescent exit sign. First, you must ensure that there is general light that on the face of the exit sign in the location where the sign is going to be installed. There does not have to be a specific light pointing on the sign, but there must be at least five foot candles of light present on the face of the sign when the building is occupied. To make sure you have five foot candles of light you can use a light meter or consult your local building or fire inspector and gain their approval.
The second thing to consider is if the building or property be occupied while the lights are off. In commercial spaces, such as office buildings this is usually not the case because the lights are on whenever people are in the building. But, in the case of a location such as a movie theater the lights are turned off and photoluminescent sign would not have enough light to absorb and be code compliant. If you need to install a non-electrical exit sign in a location that does not have five foot candles of light present at all times then you should consider purchasing a non-electrical self-luminous exit sign.
