Credit 4.1-4.2- Recycled Content: 10%, 20%(post-consumer + ½ pre-consumer)
MR4 promotes the use of products that are made from recycled materials, reducing the impacts resulting from using virgin materials. MR4.1 must achieve 10% recycled content (post consumer + 1/2 pre-consumer) based on cost; while for credit 4.2, the project must reach 20% recycled content.
Post-consumer materials are generated by households or by commercial, industrial, and institutional facilities that can no longer be used for its intended purpose. Examples include sawdust, chips, print overruns, and trimmed materials. Pre-consumer materials are diverted from the waste stream during the manufacturing process such as construction/demolition debris and tree clippings. Mechanical, electrical, and plumbing equipment are excluded from both categories. projects tend to easily achieve MR4.1, but rarely fulfill MR4.2.
