Materials and Resources Credit 2.1-2.2- Construction Waste Management: Divert 50%, 75% from Disposal

MR Construction Waste Management credits intend to “divert construction and demolition debris from disposal in landfills and incinerators, redirect recyclable recovered resources back to the manufacturing process and redirect reusable materials to appropriate sites.” A construction waste management plan must identify what materials need to be redirected to landfills. A site must be assigned in the construction area for where the materials will be separated.

Materials that should be recycled include metal, brick, cardboard, acoustical tile, plastic, clean wood, concrete, glass, gypsum wallboard, carpet and insulation. Soil, rocks and other hazardous material are not included. The amount of waste diverted can be calculated by either weight or volume by the project’s architect.
