Credit 7- Certified Wood
MR7’s intent is to encourage environmentally responsible forest management. To achieve the credit you must use a minimum of 50% wood materials, which are certified by the FSC-Forest Stewardship Council. The cost of FSC wood varies depending on the supply and demand of the product at that given time. Contractors and subcontractors should closely watch the prices throughout the project’s design and construction phases.
In order to earn an exemplary performance point, the project must use 95% FSC certified wood. Framing, sub-flooring, and wood doors are typically products that are identified by the FSC. Furniture may not be included unless it is used consistently for MR credits 3-7.
