Illuminated Exit Signs
Illuminated exit signs are signs with an internal light source that illuminates the word “EXIT” in colors of red or green. Illuminated exit signs are found in all types of facilities throughout the world. They are required by federal, state, and local building codes to insure the safe exit of patrons during emergencies such as fires and earthquakes.
Traditionally, illuminated exit signs have featured incandescent light bulbs that use about 30 watts electricity and require maintenance every four months. Recently, the efficiency of electric exit signs has improved with the implementation of (light emitting diode) strips. strips have reduced the wattage of electric exit signs from 30 watts to less than five. Furthermore, light strips last for years not months, with an average lifespan between 8 and 10 years. Electric exit signs come with small systems that allow the unit to function even after AC power is lost. Illuminated exit signs and their emergency capabilities are tested and certified by Underwriters Laboratories.

If electricity is not available where you need to install the exit sign(s), non-electrical versions are a great alternative to hiring an electrician.
