Green Exit Sign
A green exit sign is an exit sign that uses green colored light strips to provide internal illumination to the unit. Green exit signs are found throughout the United States, Canada, and the world. Unlike green exit signs, red exit signs are not usually found outside of North America. Green exit signs produce light by utilizing energy efficient light emitting diodes. Currently, light emitting diodes are predominantly used to provide illumination in all new exit signs. Older exit sign models used incandescent bulbs that consume 10 times the electricity of LEDs. The lifespan of an incandescent bulb is typically about 2,000 hours, whereas the lifespan of an light strip is around 80,000 hours. Combine these two factors and exit signs will save you money and time through their low energy consumption (less than five watts) and extremely long, maintenance free lifespan.
Green exit signs are slightly more efficient than red exit signs. Typically, green exit signs consume 2-3 watts of electricity while red exit signs consume 4-5 watts of electricity. Compare this to an average energy consumption of 35 watts for incandescent bulb exit signs and you can see where the energy savings comes from.
Green exit signs are offered in traditional box shaped design and more modern Edge-Lit design. Box shaped exit signs are the best value that Greentorch carries because they are inexpensive in the short term and save you money in the long term. Edge-Lit exit signs provide a more aesthetically appealing design for a slightly higher price. Architects tend to favor the Edge-Lit design while those looking for a quick and easy solution usually purchase box shaped exit signs. Whichever style you choose Greentorch has you covered.

The human eye more easily recognizes the color frequency of green LEDs, although only by a small margin, than the color frequency of red LEDs. Make sure you do not mix red exit signs with green exit signs, as that can cause confusion to patrons trying to exit the building. Green LEDs are used for international exit signs as well as domestic. International exit signs feature a pictogram of a man running. This is because people in places such as Europe and Asia, who speak different languages, can have a universal visual understanding for where the exit in a given building is located.
