There are two types of explosion proof exit signs. Electrical explosion proof exit signs are exit signs whose internal electrical components are sealed to prevent any type of interaction with dust, gas, or other type of ignitable substance in the atmosphere surrounding the exit sign. The second type of exit sign that is explosion proof is a non-electrical exit sign. Since non-electrical exit signs do not contain electrical components they are inherently explosion proof because the only thing that can ignite an explosion inside an exit sign is its electrical components. There are two types of non-electrical exit signs: photoluminescent and tritium exit signs.

Photoluminescent exit signs use industrial grade glow-in-the-dark pigment that charges itself by absorbing ambient light and releasing it when the surrounding environment becomes dark. All of our photoluminescent exit signs install easily in minutes and do not need to be hard wired. They are maintenance free and last up to 25 years. Tritium exit signs are the most universally applicable exit signs in the industry. These exit signs contain tubes of Tritium gas, which glows for 10, 15, or 20 years depending on the service model purchased. Tritium signs do not need electricity or ambient light to operate, so they can be placed virtually anywhere. Greentorch offer Tritium exit signs with viewing distances of 100 and 125 feet.
