Energy and Atmosphere Credit 4- Enhanced Refrigerant Management

EA4 is an extension of EA Prerequisite 3. EA4 intends to reduce ozone depletion potential (ODP) as well as global warming potential (GWP). Keeping up early and often with the EPA Montreal Protocol for ozone depletion is necessary to achieve the credit.

The mechanical engineer can decide between two different options. Option 1 does not use any refrigerants, while Option 2 uses refrigerants that help eliminate global warming and ozone depletion. EA4 is one of the more popular credits in existing LEED credits and should be completed during the design phase.
