Emergency Sign
An emergency sign is more commonly referred to as an emergency exit sign. Emergency exit signs feature an illuminated version of the word “EXIT” and are placed throughout corridors and above doorways to provide an effective visual guide along the exit pathway. Emergency exit signs have been required by international, federal, and state building/fire codes for more than 70 years as a means of increasing the safe egress of patrons during emergencies where power is lost such as fires or earthquakes. Emergency exit signs are required by code to be illuminated by some sort of light source.
The majority of exit signs in America are illuminated by incandescent light bulbs. Incandescent light bulbs provide illumination by heating a filament to a point at which it glows. Incandescent bulbs use large amounts of electricity and the filament burns out about every 2000 hours, or 3 to 4 months. This translates into high energy and maintenance costs, with annual operating cost average of more than $50 per exit sign.
Greentorch emergency exit signs use efficient (light emitting diode) illumination technology that reduces operating costs by more than 90%. Our LEDs use between 2 and 4 watts of electricity with an average lifespan of 8 to 10 years. The $50 annual operating cost of an incandescent sign can be reduced to less than $5 by switching to an energy efficient exit sign. Greentorch exit signs utilize compact systems that keep the exit sign operational for a minimum 90 minutes if electrical power is lost. All of our exit signs come with a five-year warranty and are code compliant throughout North America and the world.
