Emergency Exit Batteries

Emergency exit batteries are batteries used in emergency exit signs to provide emergency operation during a power outage. Emergency exit batteries are small, efficient batteries used in what is commonly referred to as a battery backup system. Battery backup systems have been standard in exit signs for more than 30 years. They provide power for operation during an emergency power outage. Greentorch electrical exit signs come standard with battery backup systems. Additionally, we carry a full line of replacement emergency exit batteries.

Ni Cad BatteryIf you are replacing a battery in your emergency exit sign you will need to identify the type of battery currently being used. Numbers and/or letters should be printed on the battery to identify the voltage and amperage. The first printed number will identify voltage; for example a six-volt battery will start with “6”. Amperage will be identified by the subsequent numbers; for example a six-volt seven-amp battery will most likely read “670”.

Sometimes this is not the case and the numbers can be worn down over time. If you do not know the voltage and amperage of the battery you are replacing please call us. We are experts in this field and have other ways to help you identify the type of battery that you need to replace. The cost to replace a battery can sometimes be more than the cost to purchase a new unit; such is the case often with basic exit signs. If you have a plastic exit sign consider purchasing a new EXIT series thermoplastic exit sign.

The EXIT series is constructed of flame-resistant ABS thermoplastic and features a compact, powerful nickel-cadmium battery backup system for emergency operation. The housing is available in black or white with red or green energy efficient LED lamps. The EXIT series can be universally mounted (top, side, or back) and comes with two faceplates and one backplate for single or double-sided applications. The EXIT series comes with all necessary installation hardware and a five-year warranty. This exit sign is UL Listed and code compliant throughout the United States and Canada.
